PRJ Museum of Ironies

This PROJECT is for collecting Ironies particularly acute or chronic drawn from Nature.

  1. TRICKLE DOWN? South America has vast oil and mineral wealth, and a hard-working population. And for several hundred years, the 13 nations of the Sur continent have conducted variations on the "trickle down" economics now expoused by the White House, Congress, and Supreme Court -- the entire Government -- of the United States. Has the Policy of reducing taxes on the rich EVER expanded the middle classes and reduced the poor?

  2. Hope is a trope that involves incongruity between what is expected and what occurs.

  3. The great male Lion roars. But rarely fights, and only as a formality, for the attention of females. Male lions do hunt, contrary to the suspicion of many observers who often see the females doing most of the hunting. I think the ironic inctus is that creatures who put a lot of energy into Looking Fierce, do a lot less damage and slaughter than it may appear. The lesser mustelids are far more sanguinary than the large predators. The shrew is positively bucherous.

  4. ANTI-SEMITISM. This entire area is a fertile field for the ferric.

First, exactly who ARE Semites? The descendants of Abraham, and he came from Ur according to one account. And then Jews and Arabs claim to be his descendants, but then there are the "other" tribes, some of whom did not even speak the same language, and the Sinai gorge has been continuously inhabited for over 100,000 years.

This "race" simply never was isolate, pure, or genetically unique. It would be impossible to be a single race developed virtually on the isthmus between Africa and Asia, one of the most traversed corridors on the planet.

Ashkenazi "jews" have less genetic commonality with Sephardic Jews than Celts in Scotland have with Celts in Ireland.

Even more interestingly, in EVERY "race", the Musicians share genes with other Musicians of the other "races" that other members of their own "race" do not have. In other words, the Music gene-set, or the Intellectual, the Sports Player, the Decorator, the Epicure....these genes are matched much more closely than any "race" set.

Hence, any theory of racial superiority/inferiority on any scale is without a basis in science. What is genetically true? The truth is, we are all Jews. And we are hard-wired to hate someone, or some tribe. It is the easiest thing in the world to arouse a crowd of race-baiters. So many people literally do not have anything better to do.

A final irony about Jews? If there was a Master Race -- using any criteria of historical persistence, cultural achievement, creativity, discipline, ferocity, and kindness towards others...what "Race" would qualify? Jews -- the great mongrel race. They win.

This is the single sufficient explanation for the lingering Anti-Semitism we see today, now primarily among the Arabs who have not learned to stop hating themselves.

  6. WAR OF STATISTICS, Irony in....

In Viet Nam, the Viet Cong directly caused fewer than 50,000 fatalities among US military service personnel. In 25 years of continuous combat. We note that during that same period of time, over 65,000 US citizens were slaughtered or seriously injured PER YEAR on American highways, without ANY actual "combat" conditions.

Now compare today, in Iraq, we are getting a lot of statistics which again, are impossible to keep in perspective. For example,

    (1) In Baghdad, with a population the equivalent to Los Angeles or Chicago, about 200-300 people are killed annually. That number is roughly equivalent to the number killed annually in Los Angeles and Chicago, respectively, and WITHOUT an insurrection.

    (2) Nearly 25,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed since the US invaded Iraq just 2 years ago (2003). According to Iraq Body Count (a US/British monitoring group), the US armed forces are responsible for an estimated 37% of those deaths, and the percentage is dramatically dropping.

  7. ABRAHAM

Curiously, the "monotheist" religions of today claim that this One-God spoke to "Abraham". Judaism and the Arabs actually claim a genetic consociation.

Ironically, Abraham was not a Monotheist -- the OT itself describes him as "rising from the land of Ur with his gods" -- plural.

The Bible describes his journey from Ur of the Chaldees to Harran. These were the Southern and Northern centers of worship of the ancient Moon God, Nannar or Sin. When Woolley 12,13 excavated the Royal Tombs at Ur, he was surprised to find a ‘ram in a thicket’ echoing Abraham’s sacrificial offer of Isaac and the ‘scapegoat’. Many of Abraham’s relatives and ancestors lived in the vicinity of Harran. Several key names in Abraham's family, Terah (compare Yerah Moon God of Canaan), Laban, Sarah and Milcah are all derived from worship of the Moon Deity14 The deification of Ab-ram in the earliest documents is a synonym for Ab-Sin (Briffault R76v3:108). Abraham was a Pagan.

This irony of the "Founder" of monotheism is matched by the irony of the "Father" of Semites, which he was also not. There is no genetic connection between Abraham the Ur/Chaldean and modern-day Jews and Arabs. We have their DNA.

Thus, the Abraham is story of Founder and Father is a Myth.

  8. MONOTHEISM?

The question is not whether there IS or IS NOT "GOD"?

In the old days, EVERYONE was a Believer in divinity -- there were mysteries of life, patterns of blessings and curses, and it was obvious to everyone that occult forces and causes were not only afoot but were necessary explanations.

The big dispute was Which Gods. That is, among the Gods, which ONE is better than the others.

There were no Monotheists, and there are none today. People today either believe that Gods answer the as-yet unanswered questions, or they don't -- and the only argument is the ancient one: Among the angels, devils, saints and "sons" and "holy spirits" and Prophets whose name we must bless, which is the one we must "believe in"?

Is it not ironic that people CLAIM to be "monotheists" believing in a "Jealous God". WHO would the ONLY God be jealous of?

  10. LED ZEPPELIN. The Zeppelin's blatant plagiarism is well-documented. "Dazed and confused" was a Jake Holmes composition, "Whole Lotta Love" was a Willie Nixon blues creation, turned into a freak-out by LZ. Despite the wholesale appropriations, however, LZ was very creative place -- an original and ground-breaking band, with plenty of original songs.
