PRJ: Greatness of Cuba after the old guy dies

Fidel Castro still lives, but decent people are patient. Still it is sad to see not only what is lost because he stole it and suppressed it, but that so many of his victims are dying without having seen liberation Cuba.

  1. Ofelia Fox died, gracefully aged 82. I love her for her work with the most legendary nightclub, The Tropicana. This truly was "paradise under the stars".

With her husband Martin (died in the 60s), Ofelia built the landmark Arcos de Cristal, with live fruit trees inside. In the 1950s it was a highlight of genuine architecture -- and but for Castro, promised to lead a Cuban renaissance in all the arts.

She started as an English teacher, and went on to provide a stage not just for fabled shows, but also for poetry, bilingual plays, music, and avid socializing. She set up domino tournaments, to the accompaniment of Cuban dance music!

This all ended in 1959 when everything the couple had built was seized and they fled for their lives.
